- What types of franchises are available?
There are literally thousands of franchise business opportunities in many different industries, but each one is different and like anything else, some are better than others. The challenge is to find the best one for you that fits your interests, experience, education, your quality of life, and most important something you can afford.
- Can I finance the purchase of my franchise?
Yes there is 3rd party financing avaialble for franchising. MatchU can put you in touch with lenders who already work with franchisees. It is actually easier to obtain funding for a franchise because lenders also recognize there is less risk in owning and operating a franchise. Soft costs (franchise fees, architects, attorney fees) are not usually financed, but hard costs (construction, property, and FF&E) are. You can even use your 401k savings without penalty to finance your franchise. Qualifications, rates, and programs will vary and are based on your liquidity, assets, and credit scores. MatchU can recommend a variety of lenders to you. Be sure to ask about options.
- What is an FDD?
The FDD is a Franchise Disclosure Document. Every franchise is required to give you an FDD at your first personal meeting. The FDD has all the information required for you to make an informed decision about the franchise. It contains a copy of all the agreements you will be required to sign, and a list of both current and previous franchise owners. It also contains a breakdown of the initial investment and all the on going costs. You will be required to sign a receipt with the date you received your FDD and return a copy to the franchisor. It is highly recommended that you not only read each page of the FDD, but also have a franchise attorney, business advisor, or accountant review the document.
